Default 55hp Monk question - how do you deal with bleeping shadows in UW?

I try to run close to trigger them and not Aataxe, but sometimes they dont get triggered and only when I try to wand the nearest Aataxe to aggro it then they pop up and freak me out (and ALWAYS ruin me)
I made my 55hp monk few days ago, I'm quite inexperienced, can someone experienced give me few tips on how to trigger them easily?

I am talking about Dying Shadows or whatever they are called, the ones that remove your enchantments.

I have tried my fair share of soloing UW myself, so first of all, don't feel so alone in this.

Let's get down to business:

55 monks are so fun to play, it's insane. For me anyways. With that said, I suggest, for soloing UW, a Necromancer / Monk build OR a Monk / Necromancer build. Reason why: SS. There it is. Spiteful spirit is a realllly good solo spell to have [you can cap it just outside of Camp Rankor, the Talus Chute exit, I THINK]. Believe me on this, I had a solo necro, and I could tell you the build if you ask nicely (btw, the build is compliments of Godlike Satan)

Remember, that is if you want to solo. The SS build takes some time getting used to... I still die in UW.

If you want to take a SS / SV Necromancer with you [much faster I must admit] you need the elite spell Spell Breaker. FYI that is that annoying spell the Blessed Griffons cast when you are trying to capture an elite outside of Camp Rankor. You can go to www.xennon.co.uk and find a map of where each elite is in the game. I like to keep the map in back, and then guild wars running as well, so I can switch back and forth. Spell breaker basically doesn't allow the nightmares to cast that horrible rend enchantments on you. REMEMBER: only if you have a SS necro w/ you should you ever use this elite.

Oh, and sorry about the long essay. I think I basically covered all the bases.

Here's my way of getting rid of those Dying Nightmares. Save your elite skill for something else.

Yeah, the point is this: getting money. "Farming" is the answer I always recieve when I ask people how they got that 50k or so. Yes, I am poor like many people in this game... Ascalon armor STILL takes up my life savings . I've tried so many get-rich-fast stuff, like trying to win HoH and sell the Cigil for money. Don't ask how THAT went.

Anyways, I took up the whole 55hp thing, and I have to say, it is not only fun, but it is pretty fast and effective. Now, the thing is, I used SS on my runs, so maybe if you use anything else, it might not be as fast as my runs were.

How it works... hmmm... did you read my above statement .

There was an excellent report called "The Comprehensive Guild to the Solo Monk" on this very website. It was on the screen you first see when you come to www.guildwarsguru.com.

Let me give you the basic run-down. You need 55 health. Do this by buying 5 superior runes. I know what you are going to say, "But there's only 4 different types per class!" True, but you can buy two of the same superior rune: the stats won't stack (it won't be +6 as opposed to +3) but you will get the -75 health still. THEN, you need to get a -50hp offhand grim cesta. Do this by: 1) buying it, or 2) completing the quest "cities of ascalon" from Symon the Scribe in Ascalon City (post-searing). This will give you 55hp. When this is all done, your most useful spell you will ever use is Protective Spirit. That 10% dmg only is sweet, especially when you have 55 health. (You do the math: 10% of 55 = 0.10 x 55 = -5 dmg each hit / spell) Now, this is pretty awesome if I do say so myself. So yeah, Prot Spirit + Healing Breeze and Mending when you begin is your lifeline. SS is my favorite Dmg source, but there are others, and then Essence Bond + Balth Spirit + Mending are your enchants (you should bring Blessed Signet as well for the energy).

And that, dear friends, is the basics of a 55 monk. Sorry about the essay again .

I have 2 suggestions on the dying nightmares.

1. If you can interupt them , do it and then wand them to death (I use a Me/Mo so that is no problem)

2. If one pops up while you are fighting and you can't interupt RUN LIKE MAD (just don't aggro anything else). Make sure you have 4 enchants on you and the nightmare will kill itself. AS SOON AS IT DIES cast in the following order:
A. Prot Spirit
B. Healing breeze
C. All energy gaining enchants (balth's spirit, essence bond...)
D. whatever else you need to stay alive
E. Whatever you use to kill them

Like I said I use a Me/Mo. I interupt them about half the time and let them kill themselves about half the time. Once you get the hang of it, it is really easy.

hope that helps
